M. Brian Blake (born 1971) is an American computer scientist/software engineer and a Professor at the College of Engineering, University of Notre Dame. In 2005, Dr. Blake was the youngest African-American in history to receive tenure in a computer science department. To date, his unique accomplishments have been documented in several articles - including being named as the most promising scientist in 2003 by Career Communications [1] and recognized as a Top 10 Emerging Scholar in Diverse:Issues in Higher Education [2]

M. Brian Blake received his BEE from Georgia Institute of Technology in 1994 and the M.S. in Electrical Engineering from Mercer University in 1997 and Ph.D. in Information Technology from the George Mason University in 2000. His thesis Agent-Based Workflow Modeling for Distributed Component Configuration and Coordination was advised by Hassan Gomaa.
Dr. Blake’s research has been published in over 100 journal articles and refereed conference papers in the domains of service-oriented architecture, component-based software engineering, services-based software engineering, software engineering education, and workflow and process management systems. His investigations cover the spectrum of software engineering: design, specification, proof of correctness, implementation/experimentation, performance evaluation, and application. In industry, Dr. Blake spent over a decade as a software architect, technical lead, and expert developer with companies such as General Electric, Lockheed Martin, General Dynamics, and The MITRE Corporation. Concurrent with his appointment as a professor, he has spent over 9 years as an expert-level systems consultant in the intersection of information technology and software engineering supporting the Federal Aviation Administration, the Department of Justice, the Department of Defense, and various legal firms.
